Welcome to the Language Link Cultural Experience Program! We are excited about your interest in becoming a Host Family and look forward to sharing this exciting cultural experience with you.

Being a Host Family

Host Families are hand selected by Language Link to best meet the needs of each program participant. Your guest will spend each morning and evening with you during the program with the exception of a short excursion to a popular tourist attraction or city. Please plan to provide your guest with a wholesome breakfast and dinner each day he/she is in your home.

You and your guest will have the exciting opportunity of planning activities to enjoy together each evening. Some nights might be spent at your home enjoying a movie and popcorn while others might be spent at a nice restaurant followed by a performance at the local theater or concert hall. You and your guest will work together to plan these activities. The cost of housing and any meals provided by you are covered by the generous stipend provided to you for your participation as a Host Family.

As a Host Family, you will provide your guest with a private bedroom (or shared with another program participant) and access to a private bathroom. You will also provide bedding, soap, and a bath towel for showering. Because your guest will be here for an extended period of time, please provide your guest access to a washing machine and dryer to launder his/her clothing.

The time you spend with your guest will provide him/her with endless opportunities to experience United States culture and to practice his/her English language skills. Each participant will experience first-hand what family life in the United States is all about!

Benefits of being a Host family

Being a Host Family for the Language Link Cultural Experience Program is a very exciting and rewarding experience for both your family and the program participant(s) you host. Your family will gain a cultural experience through daily interactions, communication, and participation in activities with an international student. You will have the opportunity to share traditions and family interests with an international student while helping the participant gain an understanding of U.S. customs and cultures. In addition, your family will have the opportunity to help the participant with his/her English language acquisition through personal conversations and interactions.
